Behind the scenes of the ORE and LDS exams brings you the unseen elements of the exam and invaluable insights from the eyes of a dental nurse who has supported the exams for a number of years, proving support during manikin exams and also as an actor providing role play in OSCEs and Treatment planning exams
A practical, supportive session sharing observations from the dental nurse, simulation and support side of the exam environment. The session does not teach dentistry, prepare candidates for the exam or provide a marking guide. Its purpose is to help candidates understand the people and process around them, use available support appropriately, communicate clearly when nervous and avoid small behaviours that can make a difficult day harder.
By the end of the session, candidates should be able to:
OUTCOME
DESCRIBE
the different roles of dental nurses, actors/patients and examiners, including what each person can and cannot help with.
USE
dental nurses and support staff appropriately by listening, asking clearly, being specific and staying professional.
COMMUNICATE
in simple, clear language with actors/patients, especially when English or nerves make speaking more difficult.
RECOGNISE
common behaviours that can make exam day harder, such as rushing, watching the examiner, ignoring instructions or comparing themselves with others.
RESPOND
calmly if something goes wrong by using the correct process, asking for permitted help and correcting themselves without panic.
APPLY
a small number of practical 'behind-the-scenes' tips to make better use of the people, room and process around them on exam day.
Please note the session will not be recorded. No refunds will be available.
